Nice day today. Weather was beautiful. In the low 70's, sunny, no wind. Just great.
We went downtown to Springfield. We saw the Lincoln house, his law office, his church where they rented the pew, some old homes of the era of other people in his cabinet and etc. We had lunch at Zbistro and we ate outside. I love that but Leroy usually doesn't like to eat outside. So he did it for me. It was great. We went into the museum and library but didn't have enough time so we saved that till tomorrow. We went into the old capital where he was in congress and his boy laid in state. We saw the train as it had just gotten into town. Its a replica car of the train that brought his body back. The made an exact replica of his hearse, it was quite the story. I am interested in seeing it.
People were constantly coming up to you, especially if you had your map out, and they were asking if you had questions or needed help. People were around the town in period costumes. We got lots of great pictures. It was great. Business' and homes draped with mourning clothes. Quite an emotional and impressive status. Tomorrow they take the funeral procession from the train depot to the capital. Then Sunday they take the processional to the tomb at the cemetery. I hope to see that. We decided since we have the opportunity we would stay and see this. Lincoln was my favorite so seeing living history is great. All that walking and I still took the dogs on three walks. Got my hand projects ready to go so now I just need to finish my photographs.
