OK, I have orders to keep this blog up. Well its been a busy two days. Yest. we went to Winterset Iowa. It is a darling small town with the neatest town square. It also has the Fons and Porter store with the nicest people. We went to John Wayne's home and that was really interesting. We saw the covered bridges of Madison county (remember the book?) and then walked about 2-4 miles up a hill to the Clark Tower. Finally catching up on my pictures so will be able to post some soon. We ended up staying in a walmart parking lot last nite. We tried to go to the balloon museum in oscalosa but we were to late and it was closed and Leroy didn't want to wait till am.
Today we went to Kalona. it is the Quilt capital in the Midwest. We went to the quilt museum, a historic village, and a Mennonite museum. We are surrounded by the Amish and the buggies are everywhere. It is pretty cool. A lot of quilts. This is the largest Amish colonies east of the river. The barns have quilt squares on them, and a map to find them. They have quilt squares in the sidewalk, also with a tour you could do. It is pretty cool. Carver county in Minn. is also starting a barn quilt tour and that's pretty cool too.
The temps have been in the 30's in the am and 50's maybe during the day. Not a problem for me as I love fall weather. Beautiful colors all around us. Minn was gorgeous but not quite as bright as some years, but that's because they didn't have enough rain during the summer. They definitely are having cool nites and sunny days tho so it is great. I am walking in great leaves, it is just gorgeous, such a pretty fall. I love it, cool enough for me to wear a sweatshirt without getting to hot. Yeah!!!!!!!
The farmers out here are working their buts off trying to get the last of the crops in. Mostly the corn which got in late so it matured late. Its just getting ready now. They are driving their tractors like maniacs trying to get back to the field to harvest more.
We are doing OK in the RV. as well as we normally get along. Our biggest problem is me reading the map for him. Man we just can't work that out. He never does what i say and he thinks i don't have credibility cause i screw up so often. But it will work out as time goes by. We will either work it out or one of us will kill the other, ha ha.
So its been taking us about 8 hours a day to go 200 miles or less a day. Seems funny but that's what our plans were, plan the days as we went along. We will probably go broke but having a good time now anyhow.. So hopefully we will hit Missouri tomorrow and be near St Louis by the weekend. That will give us time to get the dogs cleaned up and ready as hopefully we will go for the first show on Thurs. Glad to hear things have cleared up as Leroy was hoping to get up to the arch.

wed 10/16
Haven't been on it for a week or so. Been to busy. We rode with the one sister on the
zumbrota trail one day, so cool. such a wonderful fall day. Already said i took my other sister on a ride to the river to see the colors (a timeless event everyone does) but it rained so much we could hardly see in front of the car. But we got silly and gave Leroy a bad time and we had fun in spite of it all. Eating out lots of places, as their are lots of new places around. Stopping in and seeing new stores. Trying to look over Rochester in sections but ran out of time. did do some hiking at Quarry Hill tho in spite of time problems. It is my favorite park. The horse thief caves are only open a couple times a year as they were getting destroyed by people so didn't get so see that. Man many fun times there. Had a dog fall over a cliff there one time and had to go down after him. I rode my bike all over Racine which is a really small town and really cute. Looked for houses there too. Pretty cheap. Got harassed by my nephews (typical behavior). Its how i know they still care about me.
Like I said, we made up rose and carnation bouquets to place on graves here and in south Dakota so that was nice. Hadn't been there for a long time. So had to bring them all up on stuff. In South Dakota it was Leroy's parents and grandparents. In Racine it was my mom, my brother-in-law and my niece. All were sad and i shed a fair amount of tears. Wasn't there like I should have been for many of them as i had always promised and then i have guilt and sadness for that. My mom died with Alzheimer's and sadness there for the fears she had that no one could help her with. its such a degrading disease. My niece ended her own life and i feel the sadness that we couldn't reach her and help her in time before it got that bad. It must have been awful to be locked in that kind of hell. I wish i could have made it easier.
I have two sisters. Kathy who i did the bike ride with and who's kids i was able to see almost all of them.
Tom lives in Isanti and i got to see him on a sun afternoon. A long walk in his woods. He has 10 wooded acres on the rum river, totally breathtaking. The dogs ran and ran and came back full of stick tights but happy and tired.Iris was able to make a new friend, a lab named Molly. They have another little tiny corgi that is to cool to describe and her name is Betty. He has two of the darlingest kids you can meet and one has gotten a 1/2 ride scholarship to St Scholastica in Duluth for Nursing. Yeah Mackenzie! Now i have someone in the family who will understand me., Ben the son is a big son of a gun and is a junior. don't think plans are made yet for him but he can do just about anything. Kathys youngest son I met in Hugo, up by white Bear Lake while he was taking his little boy back to the mom. Well the little boy hasn't changed since i met him many many years agao, very smart, very sweet, very gentle. I hugged and kissed the stuffing out of him. and his dad since i haven's seen any of them for so long.
Then I was honored to see her daughter and grandaughter and great grandau just the other day. The dau is not well and its a long story. It was sad to see how tough she looked and felt. I wish to could do somethin for her. Her daughter is one of the most beautiful women on the planet and the greatgrandau is very close behind. I am not exaggerating a bit. Wonder why some of that beuty couldn't have passed on to some of the rest of us..
My other sister Bonnie has 8 children alive. one is in Florida, won't see him, one in Lincoln, probably won't connect with you I saw the son that owns a restaurant and catering service. Good cooker!!!! One lives close to my sister and hes the devil of the bunch but also the one who picks on me the most. actually he a gem. My purple hair has made some conversations but the kids like it and the adults just shrug it off and consider the source. ha ha.
I have a great family and they are lots of fun.I got the great idea to ride our bikes from prior lake to shakopee one day, that was fun. Wind was blowing like a banshee. We spent one day with all the nieces and nephews on Leroy's side flying kits with uncle Roy and watching Iris do her stuff, which included pulling some of the small one on her carts. Lots of little ones on Leroy's side we hadn't seen yet so had to do a lot of that, and there are some cuties. Made a pincushion with my sister in law so even to a small project in.\
We went to Waconia and looked up our oldest and best friends and that was just like no time had passed. We spent some pretty wild fun times with them. We went and looked at our old house and its for sale again. And the town has improved and has a trail system just right in town that is great and had it been there before i would have never moved.
I keep hitting quilt stores so sent my first box back today. Its Donna's payment for keeping the home fires burning and taking care of so many things for us.
Its been a whirlwind fun time the last 2 1/2 weeks and wish it had been longer but time ran out and we are now on our way towards St Louis. Wish us well.
Sorry to bore you with stories of our family and i know i missed some of the funniest moments but we had lots of fun and lots of laughing but we are both SHOT. Probably won't make much distance today.
Just used a Iowa rest stop. They really improved them. This one has a long 5 mile trail out back for hiking or biking or dog walking, and some are promoting art or architecture. It is really cool. But of course as you will know by reading this, It doesn't take me much or a long time to impress me.
I thought i would have so many exciting stories to write, and I might yet, but each day is an adventure and we seem to be doing stuff every day and its fun and exciting and not boring but doesn't translate well to others i am afraid.
all for now.
